Thankful Tuesday

Hi!
There's a lot to be thankful for this week!!! A few days off from school is one of them! No homework is another! I am thankful for such a wonderful class this year---and thankful for each of you who help make my job easier....I couldn't do it without you.
Have a happy and blessed Thanksgiving Break!!!!!

Monday!!!

Hi!!!
Remember that it's a SHORT week! (As if you could forget!) There is NO SCHOOL on Wednesday, Thursday, or Friday this week....so enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with your families. I know I have LOTS to be thankful for! Here's something YOU might add to your list of things to be thankful for: NO TESTS this week and (almost) no homework! All I ask is that students do their 20 minutes of reading for their reading logs tonight and that you sign it (and the agenda). No spelling words to study, no Daily Reviews....see, not so bad, right?
Anyway, I hope that makes your night a little better...have a good one and try to stay dry!

Thursday!

Hi All!
Auditions for the 4th grade musical are Friday.  Students who were interested in speaking parts or in being part of a small singing ensemble brought home the audition material yesterday--please practice with them! :)
Also, students are working on writing a letter with Mrs. Lloyd. They need to have the address of the person they are writing to when they come to school tomorrow. Please help them be sure they have this written down.
Midterms came home yesterday! Please sign and return this as soon as possible :)

Tonight's homework:
Reading: LOG and QUIZ tomorrow over Encyclopedia Brown
Spelling: Test tomorrow!
DR Quiz tomorrow (week 14)

Have a great night!

(Not-so) Wonderful Wednesday

Hi Parents!
It was a yucky, rainy day today....and I hope your day started off better than mine!

Midterms came home today, so I hope you looked over this with your child. Please sign and return it as soon as possible. Remember that there is still another half of the grading period to go--plenty of time to bring grades up! Hopefully none will go down :) :) :)

Tonight's homework:
Reading: LOG
Spelling: Study words (homophones)

Reminders: Reading Quiz on Friday over Encyclopedia Brown, DR Quiz (Week 14), and Spelling Test (Homophones).

Terrific Tuesday

Hi All! Sorry it's so late!
Tonight's homework:
Reading- LOG
Spelling- Study words (homophones)
Not too much, so you probably didn't really need my help, huh? Well, one important reminder....midterms come home tomorrow, and I know you want to panic---but don't! Remember that these grades are not final. They are to indicate your child's current progress so you and he/she can know what areas need the most work. Remember, also, at this point we don't have a BUNCH of grades taken yet as we will by the end of the grading period! Thus, your child will have MANY opportunities to bring these grades up....that is, of course, if he/she turns them in on time! Please stress with your child (as we do!) the importance of completing assignments on time and listening to directions so they can complete assignments correctly. We had a long discussion today and about how we should not misspell a word if it's written on the page (or if we're copying it from a book)....and that it's important that we take time to do every assignment to the best of our ability! Please encourage this in your child at home as well!
Thanks for all you do!!! Sleep tight!

A Special Soldier...

On Friday, we had a special Veterans' Day program to honor the men and women who serve our country. We were lucky enough to have a special soldier (very recently returned from overseas) come and do an interview for our students (and answer some of their most pressing questions about life in the military)!Personally, my favorite question was when he was asked what we could do to help, his answer was "to show support...whether or not you agree with the politics behind it or what's happening there...support the people who are serving and fighting for our freedom." It reminded me that we can never do this too much, and I really appreciated that answer. In addition to the interview, we learned some important things about how to handle the American flag, recited the Pledge of Allegiance, and enjoyed The Star Spangled Banner sung by our very own Rylee!!!!! (She was fabulous!)
The best part???? The very special soldier is Rylee's dad!!!

Monday

Hi there!
Yellow folders came home today with LOTS of papers about upcoming events, so be sure to check those out! Also, many graded papers came home. All the tests will trickle home throughout the week as we have finally finished the last test (Science today) until Friday.
Don't forget that midterms come home this Wednesday, November 16th!
Tonight's homework:
Reading: Read (in textbook) Encyclopedia Brown and the Case of the Slippery Salamander and LOG (*you can use this story as part of your reading log to multi-task!)
Spelling: Study words (homophones!--so it's important to know the meaning that goes along with the spellings as well!)
Have a great night!

Wednesday

One test down!  I think overall students feel good about the SS test!  Yay.  Friday is a big day, filled with the usual tests (DR Quiz, Spelling Test, Reading Quiz), and our Math Test on Division.  Students completed the second study guide today, and should have it in their folders.  Anything written in red was an answer given by Mrs. Price, but everything on the page is information that they are responsible for except for the divisibility tests near the end of the study guide (which they mostly understand, but is actually a 5th grade skill).  Monday is the Science Test on rocks/minerals--a study guide came home on Monday.

Tonight's official homework:
  • Reading: Log
  • Spelling: study words
  • Math: study for test Friday
  • Science: Test Monday
And....a special "shout out" to Mrs. Owens and Mrs. Arnold for being loyal blog followers AND for voting this week! Their two daughters were the only ones to come in with "I Voted!" stickers today!!! Thanks for exercising your right to vote yesterday and for keeping up with my blog updates!

Thanks :)

Important Information--Check it Out!

Hello, hello!
I'm sure you've noticed a heavy backpack on your kiddo's shoulders...we are wrapping up the units we've been studying in most subjects.  Here is a schedule of upcoming tests:
  • Wednesday 11/9: SS Test on Southeast States (There was NOT a study guide for this--students were just supposed to write in their agendas that the test would be to label the SE and NE states, and match the SE capitals to their states).
  • Friday 11/11: Division Test; and the usuals--DR Quiz; Spelling Test; Reading Quiz-The Houdini Box
  • Monday 11/14: Science Test on Rocks/Minerals (a study guide came home today)
We reinforced the importance of studying and budgeting our time, so that everything doesn't pile up and things don't get too stressful.  Hope this transcends at home! :)

Please look for your child's Monday folder--today's Fourth Grade Follow Up is included!
Happy Election Day tomorrow--don't forget to vote!
If you vote tomorrow, have your child bring your "I Voted!" sticker to school for 5 extra credit Social Studies points! (I didn't announce this in class, so you had to read the blog to find out!!!!)
