Hello Friends! It's been a slow start to my blogging this year. Due to many interruptions and adjustments (including an unexpected family emergency in the past couple of weeks), I am now going to attempt to post things here regularly again.
As I have moved from 4th grade to 2nd/3rd, there are some things that will make my blogging a little different. First, there are five different teachers who each teach a different reading and math group. Thus, I can't post our homework assignments each night because they are not always the same. I can always give you the main stuff, but there will be slight variations among individual teachers from time to time. For the most part, all second graders will have similar homework. Third graders' homework will usually be similar as well. Both grades will have spelling and reading tests on Fridays.
Third graders are doing something this year called "Daily Reviews." (We sometmes call these "DRs" for short!) They will do these in fourth grade next year, too, so it's good practice! DRs alwaysconsist of review questions--so it is information that students have previously been taught. This is part of Morning Work each day and include two short questions in each of five subjects (Math, Reading, Language Arts, Science, Social Studies). Every day in Reading class, we will go over the correct answers in class. Students are responsible for correcting their answers and then putting it in his/her homework folder to study throughout the week. Every Friday, there will be a quiz over 10 randomly-selected questions from these sheets.
This week's Reading stories are:
2nd grade- Henry and Mudge
3rd grade- Alexander, Who Was Rich Last Sunday
We are all studying parts of a plant this week. We have read and taken notes on the four main parts of a plant. We have some seeds we are watching this week to see if they grow, and we are also watching the stems of celery to see how they carry water and minerals to the rest of the plant. Exciting stuff!
My homeroom class (along with Mrs. Duncan's and Ms. Fryman's classes) are participating in Arts and Humanities this week. My class is doing Visual Art with Mr. Fields. The students have learned about primary and secondary colors and created a color wheel! Some students will share their projects with the other two classes tomorrow. We will also get to see what Mrs. Duncan's class has learned in Drama and what Mrs. Fryman's class has learned in Dance.
One other thing that has been off to a slow start this year is our Lunch Menu! So sorry for the inconvenience. It frustrates me, too, as a parent. Apparently, they are still making some minor changes and are working on getting that finalized. Regardless, I will try to help you out a little and post the lunch menu on here as I have it.
For tomorrow, August 30th:
PB&J
Nachos
Chicken Tenders
Two big changes in lunch this year are:
1. Salads are no longer offered everyday.
2. PB&J AND Grilled Cheese will not be offered everyday. It will now be one or the other as the "Sandwich of the Day." (For example, tomorrow it's PB&J).
Looking ahead to Friday, August 31st:
Grilled Cheese
Chicken Nuggets
Baked Shrimp
I am not sure if I have the right choices for next week yet, so I will wait and post those over the weekend. So be sure to check back!!!
Whew! That's a lot of info for one night! So I will call it a night for now! Blessings for a peaceful night. :)

Terrific Tuesday
Today was Day 2 of normal routine. Students are adjusting to taking their things and going to Reading and Math classes. We're doing really well considering it's only the second day!! Please check your child's agenda nightly for homework. It will usually be a spelling or math worsksheet, depending on which group your child is in.
For MY reading group (3rd grade): Sort worksheet p. 1 (sorting spelling words by short vowel sounds in the FIRST syllable of each word). Students only need to do #1-15, so not the challenge words tonight.
There will be a Reading Test for all third graders on Friday over Boom Town. Please be sure your child studies his/her vocabulary words that were sent home yesterday. These will be on the test along with comprehension questions.
Second graders will have a Reading Test on Friday over Iris and Walter. A sheet came home yesterday with vocabulary words to study for this story as well.
For MY math group (3rd grade): Practice worksheet 1-2 on rounding. We will continue to work on rounding for the next few days.
Let me know if you have any questions! Have a great night!

Marvelous Monday
We had a great first week! Today we began switching classes. Third graders went to Ms. Fryman, Mrs. Duncan, or Mrs. Fredericks for Math and Reading. Second graders went to Mrs. Carpenter, Mrs. Holbrook, or Mrs. Gomez for those subjects. The students did a great job of going where they needed to. Students should have brought home a spelling list to study in his/her homework folder. This should be written in their agenda for you to check and sign tonight. Second graders are reading Iris and Walter, and third graders are reading Boom Town. There will be spelling and reading tests on Friday.
A newsletter was sent home today with some other information as well.
Our yellow folders (we call "Monday Folders") that come home on Mondays came home today with LOTS of papers! Please take time to go through these and return what is necessary. This will help you stay up to date with what's happening in our school and classroom.
Be sure to mark your calendar for Thursday, August 16th. It will be our first PTO meeting of the new school year. Dinner will be available as well--but you must RSVP. More details came home with your child today.
